West Coast 12 days

Day 1   : Los Angeles - Arrival

Arrival in Los Angeles. You will be welcomed by your tour director and taken to your hotel. Dinner on your own. Overnight  


Day 2:Los Angeles – Laughlin (450km – 4h50)

Morning sightseeing tour of Los Angeles and Beverly Hills. Continue to Hollywood for a walk down Hollywood Boulevard with legendary Grauman’s Chinese Theatre where you will find the handprints of famous stars in the cement. Then downtown, you will see the business district and the Mexican quarter. Lunch on your own.Late afternoon drive to Laughlin. Free time to take a walk along the banks of the Colorado Riveror play the slot machines. Buffet dinner and overnight in Laughlin.

Day 3: Laughlin – Grand Canyon – Flagstaff (440km – 4h55)

Morning drive to Grand Canyon, a superb geological phenomenon. This will most certainly be one of the highlights of your trip. Lunch on your own and walk along the South Rim to see one of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring  wonders in the world. The Grand Canyon is the result of millions of years of wind and water erosion. it's an endless expanse of shapes, colors and impenetrable shadow. The Colorado River flows over a mile below the canyon rim. It is possible to organize an optional scenic helicopter tour of the canyon. Dinner and overnight in Flagstaff.


Day 4: Flagstaff Monument Valley – Page – Kanab (590km – 6h45)

Leave for Monument Valley, where you will find yourself surrounded by dark red hills. Visit this imposing area where numerous westerns have been filmed. This 25 mile-long and 16-mile wide desert plain overflows with gigantic sandstone monolithic structures rising high above the valley. Lunch of Navajo specialties (included with a 4x4 tour) with Navajo Indians. Arrival in Page in the afternoon after making stops at Lake Powell and Glen Canyon Dam. (Optional: Scenic flight over Lake Powell).  Western dinner with live country music and short show. Overnight in Kanab.


Day 5: Kanab –Bryce Canyon – Zion – Las Vegas (640km – 6h30)

Today, the drive is beautiful across the plains to Bryce Canyon, one of the most fascinating natural parks of Utah. The Mormons discovered this site in the 19th century. The dazzling shapes, colors and shades of the stone of memorable Pink Cliffs constantly vary from dawn to dusk. Lunch on your own.Leave for the oldest park in Utah, Zion Canyon with its cathedral-shaped rocks, certain of which are more than 3,000 feet high. There is also a great diversity of plant and animal life due to the park’s unique geography. Afternoon drive to Las Vegas, the gaming capital of the world, glittering like a mirage in the desert. Full buffet dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Las Vegas

Leave to the northeast of Las Vegas, for your visit of the Valley of Fire with was Nevada’s first state park. The Valley of Fire offers a superb desert landscape of multicolored, strangely eroded rocks that are the remains of sand dunes laid down 150 million years ago. Many westerns have been filmed there.  Return to Las Vegas.  Lunch on your own.  Afternoon at leisure.  Buffet dinner at your hotel.  Overnight.  (Optional: Las Vegas by Night tour.)

Day 7: Las Vegas – Fresno (630km – 6h30)

Travel over several superb stretches of the Southwest to arrive in Calico, a typical Far West town named for the various colored surrounding mountains. Lunch on your own. Visit of this typical silver-mining town that boomed after the discovery of silver in the foothills in 1881. The town was restored by the Knott family, known for its jams and ghost town in California. With a welcome by cowboys and sheriffs in old-style outfits, you will feel like you are going back to the Far West of the 1880s. Continue to Fresno for buffet dinner and overnight. 


Day 8: Fresno – Yosemite – San Francisco (490km – 6h25)

Drive to majestic Yosemite National Park, one of the most beautiful parks in the state of California. Yosemite surprises by its fresh Alpine landscapes with pine forests and magnificent waterfalls. Sheer white monolithic cliffs tower over the valley. You will discover Half Dome, Yosemite Valley, Bridal-veil Falls and Yosemite Falls, in the spring in particular, as well as a pioneer village in the southern part of the park. Lunch on your own in the park. Afternoon drive down from the mountains and across the fertile agricultural lands of Central Valley to San Francisco. Dinner with live music and overnight.


Day 9: San Francisco 

Early morning departure for San Francisco. Guided tour of San Francisco, one of the most photographed, filmed, and documented cities in the world, a tantalizing mixture of history and modern sophistication. Built on several hills, the city is the gem of the magnificent bay at the foot of these hills. You will see the business district, Union Square, Chinatown, then cross world-known Golden Gate Bridge to the picturesque town of Sausalito across the bay. Lunch on your own. (Optional: Take a 1 hour cruise on San Francisco Bay). Afternoon on you own in San Francisco, where you will be able to discover the city on foot, take the cable car or do shopping. Dinner. Overnight.


Day 10: San Francisco – Monterey – Lompoc  (520km – 5h55)

Leave for Monterey Peninsula with splendid beaches, cypress trees and cliffs. It has been a favorite spot for many American and European painters and poets. Tour of the town of Monterey, particularly the fishing port and Cannery Row, made immortal by the writer John Steinbeck. Lunch on your own followed by a visit of nearby Carmel, one the most charming coastal towns of California, with untouched beaches and attractive shops. You will travel along the 17 mile drive on the way. Continue to Lompoc. Dinner and overnight. 


Day 11:Lompoc – Los Angeles (240km – 2h45)

Morning drive to lovely Santa Barbara and tour of this town with its golden beaches and palm-lined bay, red-tiled roofs and Spanish architecture. Lunch on your own before leaving for Los Angeles, the “City of the Angels”. (Optional: Afternoon devoted to the visit of Universal Studios in Hollywood, the largest movie studios in the world. First, board a tram on the studio tour to discover different movie sets like “War of the Worlds”, Jurassic Park” and the TV series “Desperate Housewives”. Then you will see a presentation on the great moments of Hollywood movie making or learn some secrets about special effects.) Goodbye dinner at Mediterranean restaurant in Glendale and night in Los Angeles.


Day 12: Los Angeles - Departure

Free time in the morning. Bus at disposition until transfer to the airport. Lunch on your own. Return flight.
